A managed server is a type of server that is maintained and operated by a third-party provider, typically a hosting company or cloud service provider. This allows the customer to focus on their business needs rather than server administration. 

 An unmanaged server, on the other hand, is a type of server where the customer is responsible for all server maintenance tasks, including software installation, security updates, and backups. The customer has complete control over the server, which can be advantageous for advanced users or businesses with specific needs that require custom configurations.
